Sensate Focus is about touching and being touched. The all too popular misconception is that sex must lead to orgasm mechanically. Sensate focus removes the pressure from that and focuses more deeply on sensuality, gratification, and intimacy. It involves the prohibition from touching the genitals or breasts, having oral sex, intercourse, or other types of sexual involvement. Isolating the sensual sensations creates its own distinct entity. Sensate focus therapy is the collision of my two favorite passions—compassionate touch and sex therapy. Mainly practiced in 30-40 min sessions, there are clear exercises to help lovers connect in a new and exhilarating exploration. Carefully curated progressive intimacy exercises with non-demand touching increases one’s ability to give and receive pure intentional love. Used by sex therapists for over 50 years, “mindfulness for touch” teaches people how to leave their heads and leads the focus to the body during sexual experiences.
